Journey's End

Princess MishawakaSteelhead trout and Chinook salmon slice through current and slide around dams striving, pushing away from Lake Michigan and up the St. Joseph River.

Their journey ends in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Some say they stop because there are no more fish ladders on the river (certainly a plausible explanation). Others say that the fish are drawn by the spirit of Princess Mishawaka. The salmonids come to commune with her and the many anglers who wade the St. Joe, frothing the waters reverently with their offerings of spawn, flies and spinners.

What's so great about Fishawaka, Indiana?

Steelhead TroutWhile some communities shun anglers (they leave trash behind and don't smell as good as the general population), Mishawaka has embraced its river, its fishery and its anglers. It has maintained downtown shoreline fishing access when other communities along the river have blocked anglers from the waterfront.
